Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary is the patron of Aarhus – European Volunteering Capital this year. "The title as Volunteer Capital marks that Aarhus has been particularly noted in terms of volunteering, and having the Crown Princess Mary as a patron, is a great honor for us. We will celebrate and develop voluntariness in 2018 because being a volunteer should be easy, fun and accessible for everybody", says Mayor of Aarhus Jacob Bundsgaard, who is also the Chairman of the Committee on Volunteering and Cooperation in the Municipality of Aarhus.

"It is a great honor that Crown Princess Mary will be the patron of the European Volunteering Capital in 2018. When we first had the idea of becoming a Voluntary Capital we did not expect this in our wildest dreams. When it comes to voluntariness Aarhus is very special – for example in the areas of health and elderly, many people and volunteers are involved in creating activities. The participation of Princess Mary is important for the attention to Aarhus as a Volunteer Capital", says Jette Skive, Counselor of the Health Care Department.

Mayor Jacob Bundsgaard is very pleased that Princess Mary will participate in the opening event of Aarhus as European Volunteering Capital 2018 on January 21st: "With the Crown Princess' participation, the opening event will be even more festive and will bring a special attention to voluntary work. As we could see during the European Capital of Culture 2017, a title creates the opportunity to specialize and develop an area even more, – and this is the whole idea of the European Volunteer Capital", the mayor says.
